What I Read This Summer

What I Read This Summer

When I logged into my Goodreads the other day, I was shocked to see that I am somehow on track to hit my reading goal for the year! I don’t think that’s happened since the 7th grade (hopefully I didn’t jinx myself by saying that, whoops!)
I thought it would be fund to do a wrap up of the books that I’ve read this summer!

We had a lot of beach time early this summer which was a great way to kick off summer reading! I LOVE Dorothea Benton Frank and have been reading her books since high school, sadly she passed away in the past few years so I try to only read one or two a year and savor every last one. Many of her books are set in the Low Country, a place I’ve been dreaming of living ever since I picked up her first book. Porch Lights was such a sweet read, it feels like walking into your childhood home after going of to college, warm, inviting, familiar, but with some changes in each book.
After the beach, we stopped in New Orleans and while shopping one day in the Garden District, we popped into Garden District Book Shop and I immediately was drawn to this book and picked it up. I love anything set in New Orleans, and while I love thrillers, this was the first ghost/spooky book for me, and while I didn’t want to read the book at night while I was alone, the writing was amazing, the story was great, and I enjoyed every minute of being a little scared!
I picked up this really fun read for our next beach trip written by @mrssouthernsocial. We were at the beach for a wedding, and I knew I was probably going to begin wedding planning int he next few months, so this story about a wedding planner basically planning her dream wedding over and over again while having dating fail after dating fail was the perfect beach read. She has another book that just came out this summer too that’s a spin off of this book, and I will definitely be picking it up soon!
I was so excited to see that Karen White put out the next book in the Shop on Royal Street series!! This book picked up right where the first had left off, and I was definitely more prepared going into this one, and knew what to expect on the spooky side, so enjoyed this book even more! Fingers crossed there are more books where this came from!!
My last book this summer I picked up at East City Bookshop (my favorite local DC bookshop). After reading so many good books this summer, I wished I had ended it on a bit of a higher note, but this book was an easy read to round out summer. A little spice, some tennis, some affairs, and even murder, this book had a little bit of everything!
Excited for some books on my fall reading list! Follow me on Goodreads to more reading updates, my to-read list is way too long but who’s keeping track!!
